Dear Parents and Carers,
2015/2016 was a special year for Holy Family Catholic Academy. Following from our successful OFTSED we were very proud
that within 20 months of opening we were judged ‘Good’ by OFSTED in all four inspection categories. This represents an unprecedented rate of progress locally. We were also rated as a ‘Good’ catholic school in our November 2015 inspection.
We have consolidated our ‘good’ status with a ‘Progress 8’ outcome of: +0.07. ‘Progress 8’ has replaced 5 A*- C as the measure by which all schools are ultimately judged. ‘Progress 8’ measures the average progress made by all students in
their best 8 subjects against their starting points when they entered in year 7. On average HFCA students made better than expected progress across their best 8 subjects than would have been reasonably expected when they joined in year 7. They achieved above their predicted grades. Where does this place us locally and nationally?
- Top 5 of all schools in North East Lincolnshire.
- Above the national average of all schools.
- Significantly above the national average for sponsored academies.
- Significantly above the national average for academies who opened at the same time as us.
- Above the national average of all comprehensive schools in the UK.
- Above the national average of all state-funded schools.
We are very proud that our results fully endorse our ranking as a good school whose students achieve above their target grades – our students/your students punch above their weight!
At Holy Family we know all of our students, the staff team and I know the name of every student in the academy, our students are known as individuals and valued – your child is not a name on a database. I passionately believe that all students are individuals and valued members of the school community whose contributions are recognised and celebrated.
As a result of this knowledge we are able to offer students additionality and interventions. Students with SEN for example made outstanding progress, achieving over a grade higher than their target grades.
I am very proud that not one student left our academy to join other local schools. Knowing our students and meeting their needs, means that no-one leaves our academy to join other local schools.
We have bigger numbers coming into year 7, more first choice preferences and increasing numbers of students joining the academy as in-year admissions.
As I have said, we are a school that punches above its weight. We are a premier league school for performing arts, national champions in 2014. A trailblazing school for WISE – Women in Science and Engineering, we encourage girls to tackle STEM subjects. We have close links with HETA – students at HFCA do engineering not just craftwork, local businesses such as HETA and local industry know this.
Our sports teams in football and netball compete against and beat some of the biggest schools in the local area. We are the Regional KS3 champions in dodgeball. You may have seen in recent local press the headline ‘resort academy sweeps the board’ in Grimsby in Bloom Poetry competition. First, second and third were all students at HFCA.
Holy Family Catholic Academy is established as a good school with good outcomes and outstanding extra-curricular opportunities that knows and meets the needs of our students. I believe that our knowledge of our students and the support we provide for them makes us a very unique school. Above all, I am so proud of our students whose success we continue to celebrate.
