It has been a very busy beginning to the academic year, with lots going on.

 The Chaplaincy Team

The Chaplaincy Team are now planning and preparing worship for the rest of the school every two weeks.  They have become more competent and confident when considering themes and choosing relevant readings from the Bible and writing their own prayers.

We have several students from year 7 who have joined the Chaplaincy Team and it has become much larger.  With this in mind, we have put each member into a sub group.  We now have a team who prepare worship, a prayer writing team, a prayer focus team, a Fair Trade team, a publicity team, a display team, a CAFOD team and a charity team.  Hopefully this will help everyone to feel they are playing a vital role whithin the Chaplaincy.

Apostleship of the Sea

We have once again presented Father Colum with a cheque for £163.08, Raised by HFCA for the Apostleship of the Sea.

The Chaplaincy Team decided to make the Apostleship of the Sea our main charity for Advent for the second year running. We launched our Shoebox Appeal during worship in the first week in November. Each Form Group collected items to help fill shoeboxes for the Seafarers, who arrive at Immingham during the Christmas period. We collected men’s toiletries, sweets and chocolate, warm gloves, sock and hats and playing cards, dominoes, notebooks and pens.

Mass

Year 7 Welcome Mass

The year 7 Welcome Mass was celebrated on Wednesday 12th October.  Students from year 7 selected hymns and prayers and took a very active part in Mass.  They read the readings of the day and wrote the prayers of intercession.  Parts of the Mass were subject to a commentary, for those students who had not attended Mass before.  Everyone really enjoyed being fully involved and were complimented by Father James, who celebrated Mass with us.

 Lunchtime Masses

The Lunchtime Mass occurs every two weeks and attendance is voluntary.  Approximately 20 students attend and they now use the Mass booklets which enable them to follow the order of Mass and respond to readings and prayers with enthusiasm.

Joint Schools Mass

Seven students represented Holy Family at the Mass for the three Catholic schools on 16th October at St Pius Church Grimsby.  They took an active part in readings, prayers and actions during Mass.  Several members of staff attended and the Mass was a very joyous occasion, our students made a very favourable impression on the parishioners at St Pius.  We were very proud of them!

Mass for World Youth Day

Students and staff from the Academy took an active part in Mass on the Feast of Christ the King on 20th November at St Pius Grimsby.  They narrated and acted out the Gospel of the Day.  It was a joyous celebration with other young people from the area.

The Chaplaincy Team

Membership of the Chaplaincy Team has grown and we now have up to 20 members. These students are developing as a team who are beginning to lead worship for the rest of the school. They meet regularly in the Chapel.

They are also responsible for our Fair Trade Tuckshop every month.

The students themselves are performing many tasks – publicity, music, liturgy and worship, charity fundraising, representing the Academy at local Masses, to name a few. Watch this space to see how our Chaplaincy Team develops!
